Hailing from south-west Scotland, near the national book town of Wigtown, 'Galloway Pippin' is a delightful apple variety which produces superb dual-purpose apples with a crisp bite, from late September.
First grown during Victorian times, 'Galloway Pippin' apples hold their shape beautifully when cooked, while also cooking down and stewing nicely enough. The longer in the season you leave your apples on the tree, the more pleasant they'll taste when eaten fresh.
Like all apple trees, this variety provides a great way to encourage more pollinating insects like bees and butterflies to fllock your garden.
Growing to just four metres in height, due to the semi-dwarfing rootstock onto which the cultivar is grafted, this 'Galloway Pippin' tree is an ideal pick for more space-limited gardens.
Originating from where it did, this cultivar is brilliantly-suited to growing in wet, cold locations (which is a good job, really, given how much rubbish weather we get).
